Steve Frenkel leads Blue Energy’s commercial and development teams to deliver firm, clean, and reliable nuclear power that can scale to meet accelerating load growth driven by utility and data center demand.
Steve brings more than 20 years of experience working across nearly every part of the energy transition, including origination, commercial strategy, project development, as well as policy and regulatory affairs. Most recently, he led origination for giga-scale power generation and HVDC transmission projects.
Steve began his career as a public radio journalist covering energy and the environment and then helped shape energy and climate policy for the State of Illinois. After helping to accelerate adoption of innovative Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing mechanisms, Steve led the Midwest office of the Union of Concerned Scientists to advocate for RTO policy reforms to support clean energy resources. He then served as executive director of a water-technology innovation platform, where he brought together utilities, entrepreneurs, and investors to accelerate technology commercialization.
From policy and innovation, Steve moved into project development and origination as Vice President of Origination at Invenergy where he structured gigawatt-scale offtake agreements and developed firm energy products tailored to hyperscale and utility customers.
Steve holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Master of Public Policy from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy.
